The B&G Réserve range is Barton & Guestier’s varietal series from southern France, built on partnerships with around thirty growers across the Languedoc, Gascony and Corsica. Cooler sites, poorer soils and limited yields are chosen deliberately to keep freshness and balance in the wines.
For this Merlot, fruit comes from parcels in the Aude, Hérault and Gard, whose mix of schist, marl, chalk and clay soils gives the ripe, rounded berry character the grape is loved for. Vinification is classic and the wine is unoaked, so the fruit stays front and centre.
About the Producer
Barton & Guestier is France’s oldest wine house, founded in Bordeaux in 1725 when Irishman Thomas Barton set up as a wine merchant on the Garonne; the Guestier name joined through Daniel Guestier’s partnership with the Barton family in 1802. Today the house is based at Château Magnol in Blanquefort, near Bordeaux, and produces wines from France’s main regions — from Bordeaux and the Loire to the Languedoc — with a house style built on consistency and approachability.
