The name “Matua” means “head of the family” in New Zealand’s native Maori language, which is appropriate given that the winery made the country’s first Sauvignon Blanc back in 1974.

The winery was originally founded in a modest tin shed by two brothers, Bill and Ross Spence, who had a vision to make New Zealand wine that could compete on the global wine scene.

They are now recognised as one of the country’s premier producer, with a wide range of award-winning wines.

This stunning 100% Sauvignon Blanc is reminiscent of the brothers’ very first bottle which helped kickstart New Zealand’s Sauvignon revolution.

The fruit comes from prime vineyard sites in Marlborough which is known for its cool climate and ideal growing conditions for the variety.
