Some bottles are for a Tuesday. These three are for the night you want people to remember: a promotion, an anniversary, a long lunch that turns into dinner. Each costs over KSh 10,000, and each earns it: one is a modern Australian legend, one comes from the southernmost vineyards on earth, and one is a Premier Cru Chablis from one of Burgundy’s oldest houses.
All three are tasted and picked by our team, and all three can be at your door in Nairobi today.
Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz: the “Baby Grange”
KSh 15,436, down from KSh 19,295 (20% off for a limited time) · Vintage: NV · Shop Bin 389
Penfolds first made Bin 389 in 1960 under its legendary winemaker Max Schubert, the man behind Grange. Part of each vintage is aged in the same barrels that held the previous year’s Grange, which is how it earned its nickname: “Baby Grange”.
The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon for structure and Shiraz for richness, drawn from McLaren Vale, the Barossa Valley and Padthaway in South Australia. Expect a full, creamy mid-palate, firm length and dark fruit balanced by oak. It drinks well now and will reward years in the cellar.
Pair it with: grilled steak, lasagne or a mushroom risotto. Serve at 16–18°C; in Nairobi’s afternoon warmth, 20 minutes in the fridge gets it there.
Why now: Bin 389 is one of Australia’s most collected reds, and this price will not last.
Fin del Mundo Special Blend: wine from the end of the world

KSh 10,095 · Only at The Wine Shop in Kenya · Shop Special Blend
Bodega del Fin del Mundo means “winery at the end of the world”, and it is no exaggeration. Its vineyards in Neuquén, Patagonia, are among the southernmost on the planet. Cool nights and long, warm days ripen the grapes slowly, giving concentrated fruit with bright acidity.
Special Blend is the winery’s flagship red: Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from the 2020 vintage. Each variety spends 12 months in French oak on its own, then the blend goes back into barrel for 6 more months and rests another 6 in bottle. The result is deep violet, with blackberry, dark chocolate and spice over silky, ripe tannins and a long, elegant finish.
Pair it with: roast lamb with herbs, a ribeye off the grill, aged Manchego or a dark chocolate dessert. Serve at 16–18°C.
Why now: we are Kenya’s only importer of Fin del Mundo, and Special Blend will keep developing for 10–15 years if you can wait.
Louis Jadot Chablis Fourchaume Premier Cru: Burgundy’s crisp, mineral white
KSh 16,095 · Shop Chablis Fourchaume
Maison Louis Jadot has been making wine in Beaune since 1859. Chablis sits at Burgundy’s northern tip, halfway between Dijon and Paris, on limestone soils packed with ancient fossilised oyster shells. Of its 3,500 hectares of Chardonnay, only 586 are classed Premier or Grand Cru, and Fourchaume is one of the most respected Premier Cru sites.
Jadot ferments part of the wine in large 456-litre barrels and part in steel tanks, then ages it 13–15 months on its fine lees. Expect citrus and honeysuckle on the nose, a powerful, flinty palate and crisp acidity. It is Chardonnay at its purest: no heavy oak, just precision.
Pair it with: oysters, prawns, grilled fish from the coast or a goat’s cheese salad. Serve at 12–14°C.
Why now: a Premier Cru white is the easiest way to impress at a seafood dinner, and this one will age 5–15 years.
