Matua Pinot Noir
This Pinot Noir is a vibrant cherry color, exuding an aroma of sweet raspberry complimented with sweet and spicy oak, just hinting at the layers and depth of fresh and fruity flavor. Bright and energetic to taste, it is brimming with red fruit and soft, supple tannins, perfectly seasoned with a dash of oak for those light toasty notes. For the finale is a fresh, lingering finish that is simply moreish.
Country: New Zealand
Suggested Food Pairings: The finish is pure and clean, making it a great wine to serve as an aperitif or to cleanse the palate alongside creamy cheeses, roast chicken, or hearty pasta dishes. It’s also a natural match, for anything from: the sea, including fresh oysters, grilled fish, and shrimp.
The name “Matua” means “head of the family” in New Zealand’s native Maori language, which is appropriate given that the winery made the country’s first Sauvignon Blanc back in 1974.
The winery was originally founded in a modest tin shed by two brothers, Bill and Ross Spence, who had a vision to make New Zealand wine that could compete on the global wine scene.
They are now recognised as one of the country’s premier producer, with a wide range of award-winning wines.
Matua’s philosophy is to make wine from the best grapes from the best vineyards in New Zealand, letting the quality, fruit character, freshness and purity shine through every glass.
