Kleine Zalze Vineyard Selection Chenin Blanc

3,895 KShs

Tight with flavours of melon, peach, guava and a hint of minerality. Masterly oaked with a lively crisp finish. This wine can be enjoyed now, but with careful cellaring it should age gracefully over: the next 10 years

Country: South Africa
Region: Stellenbosch
ABV: 13.5% vol
Suggested Food Pairings: Excellent on its own, or served with barbecued meat, veal, poultry, pasta and red meat dishes
Remarks: The grapes for this wine comes from selected “Bush Vine” vineyards in Stellenbosch. The average age of these vines are 30 years and most of them are planted on decomposed granite soils. Owing to the nature of bush vines, careful canopy management was exercised so that no bunches were exposed to excessive sunlight and an even ripening of the grapes. For a change we had a normal winter in 2020. Cold and very wet and even a little bit of snow on the mountains. Summer started a bit later than normal and thus the ripening was delayed by about 10 days. We had a very moderate but dry summer, exactly what we want for quality wine production.

Product Description

Kleine Zalze is an award-winning winery situated in the heart of the Cape Winelands, just two miles from: Stellenbosch. Winemaking has taken place on our estate on a small scale since 1695 but it was in 1996, when Kobus Basson and his family purchased the property, that the modern Kleine Zalze was born.

Our philosophy is simple: success begins in the vineyards. Exceptional wines are made possible by selecting varieties and clones specifically suited to the various soils and slopes, and further careful management of the farm’s extensive natural assets.

This continuous attention to detail culminated in Kleine Zalze achieving new heights in 2020 and being named Top Performing Winery of the Year by Platter’s South African wine guide, arguably the most comprehensive guide to South African wine in the world.
